One way car rental?

So, i%26#39;m sure it%26#39;s pretty common to rent a car in Miami, drive down to Key West and return the car. Then pick up a car in Key West and drive back for your return. Well, car companies are quoting me a huge ($125) each way fee for doing the one-way thing. My mom keeps saying I should just make the reservation in Miami and not tell them it%26#39;s a one-way and then drop it off the next day in Key West and say I changed my mind. I guess she has done this when they really thought they%26#39;d keep the car and ended up not using it so they returned it. She said they were not charged the %26#39;one-way%26#39; fee. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Enterprise is charging $56/day, but wants the $125 one-way fee. I only need it drive down and back as once I get there my mom and other family members will have a car as we are there for my sisters wedding.

One way car rental?

Try booking through Priceline. A lot of people have had good success with them, at least with cars. The one way rental charges must be new. I know that at least National/Alamo haven%26#39;t been charging drop off charges in the past.

One way car rental?

Well I%26#39;ve done it a few times... albeit from Fort Lauderdale, but didn%26#39;t have to pay that much.

You might want to try and call the rental agencies. Sometimes calling you can get a better deal... I would be careful about doing the drop off thing.... they could havve some fees or that or what not.

Also, look online for coupons and other offers.

I rented a car in KW and returned in to Miami and didn%26#39;t incur any additional cost. I would call the rental place directly. Don%26#39;t go through the 1-800 number, find a direct number to the on-site location. I used Budget in KW 1-305-294-8868. Try calling them and see if they can help you out. They were really nice and helpful.

thanks for the tips. I didn%26#39;t check priceline, but checked hotwire. I can get the car for the entire 6 days for the same price of the 2 one-ways. but we do not need/want it for the entire week. I did call places directly, but with the 1-800#. I will now call the places directly. Thanks for that tip. I was just thinking it would be around $60-$70 with tax for the trip down and back. I did find it for $240 on hotwire for the entire 6 days...worst case.

Most of the car rental places in Key West do not have one-way drop off fees. I believe Hertz charges the fee but try calling the Key West location and ask.

Enterprise definitely does...well per their 1-800# they do. I will call places directly and then let people know what I find. thanks.

i just did a search on Kayak.com and you can rent one way from Miami to Key West from Alamo for $86-90.00, for smaller cars. I didn%26#39;t do the reverse. I bet you can find some discount coupons on the net to make it cheaper yet.

Hertz didn%26#39;t charge us a drop fee when we drove from Ft. Lauderdale in November. And their location is a cheaper cab ride, or sometimes they%26#39;ll take you, to your hotel in Old Town than it is from the airport.

We just reserved a car through Hertz for a one-way on June 29th out of FLL and there was no ';one-way fee';. We drop it off at the airport, grab a cab to the B%26amp;B, then on our way out we do the reverse: cab to the airport, pick up the rental, then drive it back to FLL and drop it off just before our flight. I%26#39;m not sure if that is a new fee or what, but it is new to me.

We were running into this issue last year when planning our trip, and we ended up booking through a site called something like ';RentalCarMomma'; or something similar, and got good one way rates that way.

I like the idea of calling direct... we are planning our May trip and will try that.

Okay, so via alamo.com I was able to get the Key West to Miami portion for $44! But they want $91 for the opposite direction. I%26#39;m going to call and see what the deal is. If not, it%26#39;s going to be $135. A lot better than initially thought even if I pay the $90.
