Don%26#39;t get your hopes up too high; they just scrubbed today%26#39;s launch late yesterday afternoon.....AGAIN!!!
Getting these birds to fly on the designated day seems more impossible than ever now that they%26#39;ve ';deadlined'; the obsoletion of the shuttles. If your time in the area is short, I wouldn%26#39;t plan an entire day around seeing a launch as the chances are slim that it will actually go on the scheduled day.
However, while you can see them for just a few seconds from Orlando, most folks do drive over to the coast to see them better. Most folks wind up in either Titusville at Space View park or down at Cocoa Beach.
Traffic and crowds can be very bad, especially heading back to Orlando after the fact. I don%26#39;t believe you are allowed on the actual NASA grounds for the launch unless you have a ticket.

We were lucky enough to see the space shuttle launch at night a few years ago. It was on the night we arrived so we didn%26#39;t have a change to drive to the space center but we were able to see it from Canada Ave just off international drive. We had a room at the quality suites and you could see it directly from the walkway on our floor, other people stood watching whilst standing on Canada Ave looking in the direction of the pirates dinner theatre car park. Whilst we would have loved to have seen the shuttle closer it was still a dream of a life time to see the shuttle launch you could even see when the booster rockets seperated.
