How difficult is it to drive from any of the Disney resorts to the parks? We%26#39;re traveling to Saratoga Springs resort and i%26#39;ve heard it%26#39;s difficult to get the parks if we drive. Is this true?
Driving vs disney bus
It%26#39;s not hard to drive around the Disney Property
I don%26#39;t ever rent a car and drive while staying at a Disney Resort but know other%26#39;s on the forum that do. Everything is signposted quite well. Disney Transportation works just fine if you want or need to use it and it%26#39;s Free :)
Driving vs disney bus
It is sooo much easier to use the on-site Disney transportation. The buses, boats and mono-rail will take you fairly close to the entrances to the parks. If still unsure, take the on-site transportation at least once.
Since we drive to Orlando on every trip, we always have a vehicle.
If you are an early riser and plan to be at the parks before they open, it%26#39;s usually very easy to drive and use the parking lots. You%26#39;re not charged parking if you stay on Disney property.
The only park where I would say it%26#39;s more convenient to use the busses is Magic Kingdom, since if you ride the bus, you don%26#39;t have to fool with the monorail or ferry boat.
The reason we don%26#39;t like the busses most times is because we are usually leaving a park right at closing time or shortly after the fireworks conclude or Fantasmic, and riding the busses when everyone else is leaving at the same time is a major pain.
Its not worth it to drive to MK because you can%26#39;t park there. You have to park at the TTC and take the monorail in. The other parks are fairly easy to drive, some easier than others depending where you are staying.
It is very easy to drive around Disney property, lots of signs and easy parking. we always drive rather than use disney transporation unless we are looking for a scenic trip e.g. the boats from Boardwalk to HS. But we find the Disney transportation to be too slow and too crowded-especially at the end of the day,it is so much better to have your own car
The best tip to avoid the mad rush at the disney buses after a big show like Fantasmic, Illuminations and Wishes is to hang around the park for a little while. Once a few buses run to your resort the bus stops are empty. They run buses for a while after the park closes and will be sure to get you to your resort. Everyone is so much more relaxed if they slowly exit the park.
They have lots of signs around property, so I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll be fine if you want to drive, but the buses are great. To me they%26#39;re just totally relaxing, I don%26#39;t like to have to drive on vacation, I prefer someone to drive me around.
We have never waiting very long in a line for buses either coming or going from the parks. The lines may be long and look like you are going to have a long wait after the park closes, but they get a lot of buses there to pick people up. A lot of times 2 in a row come and clear everybody out.
I agree with Macs, though, to take your time leaving the park. It is a great time when it closes to nose around the shops or have an ice cream and people watch. Whether you are driving or riding the bus, the crowds leaving the park right after the last event, i.e., fireworks, illuminations, fantasmic, are pretty massive, so just take your time.
Thank you all so much for taking the time to respond. It is our first trip as a family (hubby, baby (2 yrs old) and myself). Cant wait to see my son%26#39;s face when he sees Mickey Mouse and all the other characters! Thanks again for all your help.
One more opinion: We%26#39;ve taken our kids to Disney three times. The first time we rented a car. But we didn%26#39;t move it all week. My husband thought the best part of the vacation was the Disney transportation. It%26#39;s effortless, and even after the big/late shows we never had significant trouble getting on a bus.
Since that first trip we%26#39;ve done without a car (flew in) and were grateful not to have to deal with parking. That%26#39;s just my two cents!
