Slightly closer would be the City-owned Payne Park complex, just off Ringling and US 301 downtown. There is a small fee; no reservations can be made; but with 12 courts you can usually find a court.

Another option, on Longboat, would be Colony Beach Club, marginally closer than the public Longboat courts. In the past, Colony Beach has been known as a Tennis Resort. You can make reservations there and there is a resident pro.
