Trip Report, Short Vacay 02/27-03/02 Long Report

Every year we go to Daytona Beach for Bike Week. I introduced our friends to Key West, and now the annual trip includes the first three nights in KW. The Bikes left Maine on a cold Tues. morning, Everything went well and my DH and his friend arrived in Daytona on wednesday evening and parked trailer and van at the airport. The rest of the boys flew in that night. First thing Thursday they were off headed for the keys. They made it to Islamorada for the first night and stayed at Smugglers Cove, had dinner across the street at Island Grill. Us girls were up very early on Friday and hit the bus station by 5:00 am headed for Logan. Our flight from BOS to MIA went off without a hitch, and one of us had a later flight out of MIA to KW. We thankfully got her on our flight by going standby. Perfect start to Vacay. The guys picked us up at airport, barely making it from Islamorada by 3:00 pm as they didn%26#39;t make it past The No Name Pub, and we were off to The Duval House. We rented the front room, that includes a downstairs living room and two bedrooms upstairs each with 2 Queen beds and the full upstairs porch overlooking Duval. The porch makes the perfect hangout for people watching. The only downside is one tiny, tiny bathroom. They have done a wonderful backyard renovation, moving there pool and creating much more space for guests. The pool all though was extremely cold. We all changed and were off all 10 of us. We had a newbie with us (poor her)first thing they did was say let%26#39;s have a drink at The Bull, and upstairs we went. It was well worth the look on her face after she figured it out. But she is a good sport had a beer and headed for SWB. My husband %26amp; I wanted to stop in at CTH for hopefully good news of Q, and took a couple of people with us while the others headed to get a table. We were glad to see Tim, Mike and the gang again, but were sadly disappointed with the news. Wish we could have stayed longer, but we kinda have this rule, we go as a group and try to stay as a group, it does work out for some fun times. Over to SWB for apps and few drinks. We then had dinner at Caroline%26#39;s, good as always. We wandered Duval most of that night bringing our friends to all the tourist places and investing in a good hangover. We made them throw quarters at the fish outside of Capt. Tony%26#39;s, and tried to get them made fun of at Irish Kevin%26#39;s etc. We had breakfast the next two mornings out by the pool it is a good continental, and thankfully included mimosas. I took a long walk out behind The Duval House through all the side streets and out by the cemetary, then crossed Duval and walked to southernmost point, on my way back saw a poor tourist trying to learn to drive a scooter in their parking lot not only dump herself but another scooter. The rest of the day was spent wandering and shopping and hitting a few places for outdoor drinks, went to The Tower bar for the first time in the day time, great place. Took our friends to Mallory Square and gave a tour. We all had lunch at The Hogsbreath. This day was really hot and humid so this is when we hit the pool. Later that night we ate at The Hardrock Cafe. I know it is a chain, but we like the food there. Sunday it was cloudy with impending thunderstorms, so we rented two of the open little electric cars and terrorized ourselfs and everyone else in KW. Yes that was us. Took our friends to take pictures at the Southern Most point, and cheated the line, by taking a different angle shot and waiting for the change of the picture takers. Sorry again that was us. We had a race to Schooner Wharf for lunch, loser was supposed to buy. We then took the cars back while they were intact, then wandered around the waterfront, and saw a guy fall off almost in front of Conch Republic, hope he is all right. We then went to the Rum Barrel for drinks and food. We headed to Pepppers for Hot Caribe Green Beans, and our friends bought up the store. We are Nascar fans so we then hit The Sports Page, had lots of drinks for about little to no money. Great specials. Hit Sloppy%26#39;s just for one to show our friends, and listen to Pete %26amp; Wayne. We were up early on Monday morning to load up the bikes, we had a long drive to Tampa for the day. Our trip was short, but any time in Key West is better than none. Can%26#39;t wait to return.

Trip Report, Short Vacay 02/27-03/02 Long Report

The most fun you can have besides just going to Key West is to bring someone who has never been there before and show %26#39;em around. You have to be careful not to try to show too much all at once.

Great trip.
