Holiday Inn LBTS Loses Franchise

Not sure if it gave up the Holiday Inn association - or had it removed by HI as the result of their awful maintenenace issues etc ( that is my guess) but the signage now calls it the Lauderdale by the Sea Beach Resort... on a temporary sign which has been draped over to cover the Holiday Inn logo. I can see no sign of any other changes or improvements. In the opinion of many on the Forum , it has been a ';troubled'; property for quite some time. It will be interesting to see if it can survive without the HI association to send them reservations.

i had heard about two years ago. that the hi was due to close and they were suppposed to knock it down and build condos or something in its place.

But then nothing happened maybe they had difficulty getting a variance so the place to refurbish? any thoughts?

It%26#39;s beautiful and warm today - high in mid 70%26#39;s- should be going up to almost 80 later in teh week, it%26#39;s supposed to be lovely all week- haven%26#39;t looked at a forecast beyond Friday , as they are usually not very accurate so far out, but I%26#39;m thinking winter is over! At least hoping that is the case!

Many hotels in this area, especially the smaller ones, stopped proper maiantenance years ago in anticipation that they could sell the property for great profit just for the land to developers - and unfortunately for many they were caught in the real estate downfall and now have shabby properties that they can%26#39;t sell. I had never heard that about this particular property but it would not be surprising to me..

Well, we stayed there last week. I didn%26#39;t want to mention it on the board before we left due to the awful reviews it got...but we got a free 3 day 2 night stay from a timeshre presentation we went on in St. Thomas last year.

I found out just before we left that it was no longer a HI. We went on a little wild goose chase in Weston when we arrived to pick up our welcome package before we had to check in in LBTS. Long and short of it they didn%26#39;t make us sit thru any presentations due to the change in property and we were on our way.

The place does need updating I will agree. Our room was comfy, clean, smelled great and they gave us a perfect front view of the ocean. I%26#39;m baffled by some of the horrible reviews! Obviously didn%26#39;t go swimming due to unseasonable COLD FRONT but sat by the pool and bar and it WAS FINE!

Even the staff were great! I will write a trip report soon as we just got back last night!
