please someone help, Im running out of time!!

Hi,

Could someone please advise me on what the UCF Campus of Central Florida University Orlando, Florida is like for going to as in a concert. Would love to see Kings of Leon, but I don%26#39;t know the ares the best. We%26#39;re travelling from the Raddission in Celebration/Kissimee. I know it%26#39;s 19 mmiles from our hotel but that%26#39;s about it. What is the public transport like? Is I ok to use and is it expensive. Was thinking about gettin the bus there and a taxi home? Anyone any idea%26#39;s? I would really appreciate all comments and advice as I don%26#39;t know much about how to go about it all. I go in 2 wks and the concert is on the 5th May. Thank you in advance. Please someone help!! x

Public transport in Orlando is not good and even with my limited knowledge of Orlando, I%26#39;m pretty certain it is not feasible.

Google the phrase ';Lynx Bus route'; or'; lynx transit planner ';and put in your hotel%26#39;s street address and University of Central Florida in the transit planner fields- and I think you will find it takes four bus changes and three hours time just to get there- with some need to walk almost a mile at one point. I suspect it would not be safe for you to come back that way, even if the buses ran late enough- which they well may not. I have been toUniversity of Central Florida many times- it is in far northwest Orange County- far removed from the tourist area- your hotel in in the opposite corner all together- southwest of Orlando. I don%26#39;t think you could possibly manage it by bus. Even if you could , the campus itself is massive.

Scan60 is the bus expert. I%26#39;m sure you could get there by bus but not sure how long your travel time would be. Taking the bus would not run you much money it%26#39;s just a matter of knowing which bus routes to take. Try to pm Scan to help you out.

Taxi would be expensive. Maybe you could look into some other form of transportation like Mears.

Want to make one correction to my earlier post- UCF is in northEAST Orlando- Celebration in southWEST- at any rate at two different ends of town( that Radisson may actually be in Kissimmee, which is really in Osceola County, not in Orlando.) If you aren%26#39;t able to rent a car, I can%26#39;t imagine there will be a way to get there that is reasonable in price and time effective.

I agree SCANS is the go- to poster for buses- but I%26#39;m pretty certain this would take a major miracle to work.

It would be possible to get fro Celebration to UCF, but it would require taking 3 buses. I%26#39;m doubtful tht returning from UCF after the concert would be possible.

You should be at the Radisson on US Highway 192. It%26#39;s served by the 55 and 56 buses. Going west to Disney doesn%26#39;t seem to work, so you%26#39;d try to go east to Kissimmee Square Mall on 55 or 56, transferring to the 4 bus from Kissimmee up slimy Orange Blossom Trail to downtown, then transfer to the 13 bus that wanders to the UCF campus.

Thank u very much to everyone for ur advice. The bus idea is prob a no-no then. Would u have any idea how much an average taxi would cost? We have rented a car out for our stay. The reason I was looking into other means of transport was because we are going to be at Discovery Cove that day (free booze and all that, lol) but I might just have one drink with my meal so I can drive later. To see %26#39;The Kings%26#39; would just complete my holiday!! In general, is it a safe enough area to go to? Im from Northern Ireland, so my accent will stick out like a sore thumb im afraid! I%26#39;ll just not speak! Lol. Thanks again for all advice, as it is gratefully received. x

According to the Mears taxi estimator, if coming from Kissimmee and going to UCF main campus, it%26#39;s approximately 38 miles each way and about $85 each way to get there, but this sounds way off your estimations. They may be calculating a different route.

Either way, I don%26#39;t think taking the bus is going to be a very good option, even if the taxi is very expensive.

The University of Central Florida was deliberately built on a greenfield site, so it is largely self-contained. There%26#39;s quite a lot of student-oriented apartments nearby. So despite being located in sort of a city, it is in no way an ';urban'; university in the way that, say, the Universities of Edinburgh or London are. Nor the University of Miami, for that matter. If UCF were in Paris, the students would complain of being exiled out even beyond the horrible banlieue.

UCF is one of the largest universities in the US with somewhere more than 50,000 students, so in some respects the university forms its own neighborhood.

In a general sort of way, Orlando%26#39;s nicer old neighborhoods are northeast of downtown, extending out to affluent Winter Park.

...and don%26#39;t worry about having an odd accent. Orlando is loaded with people from Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Haiti, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Mexico, and all of North America. A fair number of Europeans, even.

A good place to observe this local diversity is the Ikea store, where many of the staff are bilingual and where the customers present quite an array of ethnicities and nationalities.

No one will notice you.

Here is how I would get from the Celebration area to UCF. I have included example timings based on weekday schedule - you can make the same trip every hour to the same times:

1: Take bus 56 going west and get off at Disney%26#39;s Transportation %26amp; Ticket Center. eg. lv 2.35pm; ar 2.52pm.

2: Transfer to bus 50 to DownTown Orlando (LYNX central station). eg lv 3.01pm; ar 4.05pm.

3: Transfer to LYNX 13 to UCF. eg lv 4.30pm; ar 5.41pm

It will cost $2, to get to Central Station, provided you ask for a ';transfer'; ticket when you pay on the 56. Because it will take more than 90 minutes you%26#39;ll need another $2 when you board the 13.

You won%26#39;t get back after a concert, I reckon (unless it finishes exceptionally early). For that, you%26#39;ll need a cab.

Thank u all again for u replies. I%26#39;v bought my tickets just gonna try and work out where to park!! Cheers and hope u all have a great hol where u may be going x
