Indian Rocks Beach - How is the beach?

Can anyone tell me how the sand is at Indian Rocks Beach? I have heard some complaints from people that just returned from Treasure Island that the sand was so filled with broken shells that you could not walk the beach barefoot without getting cut. Is Indian Rocks the same way? We are definite barefoot beach walkers, so don%26#39;t want to spring break at a beach that you cannot walk on.

Thanks!

The sand @ IRB is soft - I%26#39;ve never had trouble walking on it.

The beach is lovely at IRB. Sometimes weather and tide patterns cause more shells than usual to wash up on the Gulf beaches, but they are soon washed away again. There will always be SOME shells...which I think is a wonderful thing. I lived on the Pinellas beaches for 20 years, and still visit regularly. I have logged 100s if not 1,000s of miles walking barefoot on the beach and have never cut a foot on a seashell.

It must have something to do with the time of day or tide because we went there aboutr 2 weeks ago for the day and in the morning the sand was nice and lots of shells but could definently walk on it.

Then around 5 we had to take a walk to the restrooms and couldnt walk on the beach without shoes... there were TONS of broken sea shells along the water line and we had to keep our shoes on or we would get cut. it wasnt like that in the morning and middle of day though.
