We will be traveling to Key West for our 1st anniversary the first week of May. We are actually flying into Ft Myers and either renting a car or taking the Key West Express and staying on the island for 3 nights. I have it narrowed down to 3 hotels and wondered if anyone had any recommendations:
Southernmost Hotel (2 dbls room - $129/night)
Douglas House (suite - $109/night)
Orchid Key Inn (king room - $159/night)
We would like some amenities at our hotel but we won%26#39;t be spending tons of time there so it doesn%26#39;t need to be super fancy. Can anyone compare any of these places? Our only requirements are close to Duval and a pool available. I have read the reviews on this site but still am unsure which would be the best place to choose.
Hotel for early June
Well southernmost is a really nice place with some cool amenities.. the others I really don%26#39;t know much about.
The only problem with Sourthernmost, and this is just me, is that It%26#39;s well... Southernmost. I like to be more centrally located down Duval and/or more towards the North end if I have to pick a side.
But there are plenty of fun things down on teh south end as well.. I just would be walking a bit more if I was staying at sourthernmost=)
Did you check out Angelina Guest House? Good central location, VERY cheap.. nice pool.. nice continental breakfast and the hammock from heaven!
Hotel for early June
Jaywepp%26#39;s right it%26#39;s long walk back at night,if you%26#39;ve been taking advantage of KW watering holes,I%26#39;ld try to find a place closer to the action! Cypress House, Heron House, KWHI to name a few , good luck!
I just stayed at the Orchid Key Inn this past Dec and the place is great. The location is wonderful too. Its on a busy corner but the first night we were there we slept in till 11am! I never do that but it was so quiet and the room/bed/lighting was so perfect we couldnt help ourselves. The pool area has lots of room to lay out plus they also have a jacuzzi. There is also a small bar on premise where the do happy hour and breakfast. It gets my vote!
Out of those I would normaly pick the Southernmost but since it%26#39;s your aniversery you will want the king bed to, well you know.
The Orchid Key Inn has just been renovated and is really nice. I haven%26#39;t been inside, I have walked around outside and now gets good reviews.
The /southernmost Hotel is really nice, and that%26#39;s a good summer rate they offer. They have a very nice big pool and a tiki bar. The Orchid Key Inn is located at the location of what was probably the worst motel in Key West (or dare I say the United States) and looks great from the photos I%26#39;ve seen, as well as the reviews. The location, on the corner of Duval and Truman is central and you would be a short walk from anywhere in old town. I don%26#39;t have first hand info about Douglas House, but it does get good reviews.
Thanks for all of the help so far. I went to book a room at Southernmost but now they do not have the $129/nt room for our entire stay so now it%26#39;s back to the drawing board to decide if we want to stay there in a more expensive room or stay at one of the others.
Of your choices, I would really only stay at Southernmost if you want to be near the beach. I personally like to stay near the other end of Duval, but that%26#39;s just me. Some people love to stay at the southern (quieter) end.
If being near the beach isn%26#39;t a top priority, I%26#39;d say Orchid Key would be my first choice (of your three selections). We haven%26#39;t seen it since the remodel, but it sounds (and the pictures on the website look) awesome! Looks like they did a first class job on that. And the location is good -- still fairly close to the beach, but closer to a lot of the bars %26amp; restaurants than Southernmost.
Go for the Orchid Key. We stayed there for our anniversary and really did love it. Bill and John are the ultimate hosts. Be sure to tell them its you anniversary when you book.
I just checked out the pics of the Orchid Inn and it looks great.
Im a Southernmost customer, but may just look into the Orchid when I visit this summer.Sure looks like a winner to me.By the address,it appears its just a couple blocks down the road from the Southernmost property?Does anyone know?If you still want to stay at the Southernmost hotel, see if they will give you an upgrade to the 90-99 units. That will get you a balcony or patio, however the view isnt the best. And they may just do that for you.The 129.00 room likely will face United st. and wont have a balcony. Not sure it they have remodeled those 129.00 units or not yet either.Geez, that Orchid Inn sure looks good to me now.
Orchid Key is on the corner of Duval and Truman.
