International Drive or Kissimmee - few questions!

Hi all,

its ten years since my first %26amp; only visit to Orlando when we stayed on I-Drive.

We now have our own children %26amp; want to take them back to experience the magic.

I dont think we are too bothered about hiring a car as the hotels offer the shuttle buses - does anyone know how much they charge per person from I-Drive to Disney??

We were also considering Kissimmee as these hotels seem to have free shuttles to Disney as well as the other parks - does Kissimmee have as many restaurants, etc as I-Drive does??

All help appreciated

Thanks

International Drive or Kissimmee - few questions!

Hi. It depends where you are planning to stay in the Kissimmee area as it is quite large. In general I would say that I Drive area has a bigger choice of varied restaurants and %26#39;eateries%26#39;.J.

International Drive or Kissimmee - few questions!

If you are not hiring a car, then I would say I-Drive as Kissimmee doesnt have the good (as good as it gets!) public transportation links like I-Drive, and on I-Drive there are lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance, or a short bus ride. I last stayed in Kissimmee as a child and from what I can remember, everything is very spread out, and hard to get to without a car

Yep, I agree if you are not getting a rental vehicle, you probably need to stay in the I-Drive area for the better transporation modes.

Kissimmee has just as much or more than does I-Drive, but it%26#39;s much, much further spread out.

If you stay on US192 in Kissimmee, east of Celebration, (so, for example, in the area called Maingate East), then you can use the every 30 minutes direct (and fairly fast) bus service into Disney. But you do need to be on or close (walkable) to US192 as there are few if any bus routes either side.

It%26#39;s not as compact an area (for restaurants and the like), nor are local buses as frequent as I-Drive, and it%26#39;s a more complex trip to get to other attractions such as Sea World and Universal.

US192 is also known as Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway.

Public buses (LYNX), at $2 per one-way ride or $16 for a full week, are the cheapest way to get about (other than any ';free'; shuttles).

Are Disney Parks going to be your Main Focus ? and what time of the year are you planning to visit ?

thanks for the advice guys

we intend to visit all the major parks in Orlando - Universal, Seaworld, etc as well as Disney, but figured most of the time we would be around the Disney area what with all the parks, waterparks, etc.

I am hoping to book on the Virgin early saver for end of May/June 2010

Thanks again

Optimum location for a fairly even spread of all the parks - Disney AND Universal, Sea World, is really International Drive - especially if you won%26#39;t be driving.

Hotels on I drive offer free shuttles to parks, would highly recommend homewood suites, have stayed twice and heading back in 8 weeks,a neighbour of mine stayed in kissimee on her first trip to orlando, and cried for days, went back next two years to i drive and had a fab time.a lot to do on i drive and universal parks are close enough not to be stranded.
