Moving

We are considering moving to Dunedin in a couple of years. Any advice?

Moving

Rent for at least 6 months before buying. Be prepared for high insurance and high property taxes. And, of course, don%26#39;t forget our sticky uncomfortable Summers, especially if you now live in the TN mountain areas.

Moving

My husband and I moved from Ohio to Dunedin about 3 years ago and we love it. We were drawn to the small, quaint downtown of Dunedin. Yes, we pay more for our house here than we did in Ohio, but it%26#39;s worth it in my opinion. Dunedin has so much to offer - the Pinellas Trail, Honeymoon Island Beach and Caladesi Beach, and of course, the downtown area.

The only advice I can think of is to live within walking distance to the downtown shopping and restaurants. I wouldn%26#39;t have it any other way.

Let me know if you have any other specific questions.

I have lived in Dunedin for about 20 years. I would suggest that you look to buy a home that has been around for 15+ years, before the housing boom and before Dunedin became ';quaint';. A lot of the newer homes will flood, I%26#39;m afraid. Also, look to be on the east side of Alternate 19- less danger of Storm Surge.

Thank you all for your advice. Ive heard very nice things about Dunedin. That its very quaint and cozy. That the crime rate is very low too. I love Florida and cant wait to be there.

We are also considering moving to Dunedin. We visited recently and fell in love. Any advice on which neighborhoods/streets we should be focusing on? I want to be within walking distance of downtown (less than 1/2 mile walk). Our budget is between 200k and 350k. Any help would be appreciated!

My husband was just declared disabled so we really dont want a house with alot of upkeep. Weve been searching realestate web sites and found some very nice condos on the beach. Any opinions on those? Some weve found have views of, is it, Honeymoon Island. The places there seem pretty affordable. Thought it would be alot more expensive. Why did you suggest to rent for awhile first?

Hi abell44 - The best place to look for a house is right south of Main Street (the downtown area). I would start your search south of Main Street, and between New York Avenue and Edgewater Drive (on the water). There is a large mix of houses in this area from old and rundown to beautiful mansions along the water. Wood Street and Scotland Street are my favorites right south of downtown.
