Never Been, but going soon

My husband and I are going to Destin Labor Day weekend, 2009. We%26#39;ve never been to Destin. We don%26#39;t golf. I%26#39;d like to know about outdoor/water must see/must do. We also like acquariums and some beginner water sports. Also, looking for nice hotels, eclectic is ok. Looking for mid-priced hotels. Can anyone offer any suggestions. Also, I%26#39;ve searched to see if there are any music or special events during Labor Day? I appreciate your response

I would go on a dolphin cruise, either Southern Star or Seablaster. We also love Big Kahuna%26#39;s and the Track with our 9 year old.

As for hotels, the only one I have experience with is Holiday Inn on Destin Beach. It normally runs about $225 and up for a night, though.

Spend some time at the harbor, go on the Seablaster, eat at Marina Cafe and Red Bar in Grayton Beach. Baytowne Wharf in Sandestin is fun - it has restaurants, bars and shopping. It is also fun to rent a pontoon boat and go to Crab Island.

Destin has many more condos than hotels. Look on VRBO. I like to stay in a gulf front house or condo but if you don%26#39;t care about staying on the beach, I think this looks like a very cool condo. http://www.vrbo.com/159693
