Restaurants - again!!

We are staying on 6th Ave in May - I know we are near to Skinny%26#39;s, Cafe on the Beach and not too far from Peaches - cant find much more - is there anything else within walking distance?

Any thoughts/opinions on Sharkeys or the Gathering Place as I note these haven%26#39;t been mentioned on recent recommendataions and I think these may be in our vicinity.

If you mean restaurants then there is a German one near Peaches. Thats about it in walking distance but you are a short walk to a trolley stop so will be able to get around easily even if you don%26#39;t drive.

Nowhere is far from anywhere on AMI - a 5 - 10 minute drive gets you anywhere from 6th Ave which is pretty central.

Only been to Sharkeys once and wouldn%26#39;t bother again but maybe we were unlucky. Not been to Gathering Place but gets good reviews.

Are you renting from annamaria.com ?

I know they have several properties in that area. We stayed in one of their villas a couple of years ago. I%26#39;m sure you will be happy with the standard of the property if this is the case.

Thanks for your reply - looks like we%26#39;ll be making good use of the trolley. Yes booked through Annamaria.com. The villa looks gorgeous, must admit have had a few communication issues with them which put me off a bit but I%26#39;m sure once we get there it will be fine. Can%26#39;t wait - only 5 weeks to go.

We had a great dinner Friday at the Gathering Place.

Most of us had fish while our vegetarian Son loved the eggplant parmesan. Nothing fancy here. We had excellent service.

Earlier in the week we went to Skinny%26#39;s. It was OK, not as good as all the hype.

Oma%26#39;s was OK for quick simple pizza on our first night. The beach House was also good, however our expectations were higher based on the reviews.

We really enjoyed Rotten Ralphs, Star fish co (in Cortez), Tortilla bay, and Banana Cabana%26#39;s.

Mr. Bones is within walking distance too...

Gets mixed reviews though...

The Old Hamburg Schnitzelhaus is owned by Wolfgang and his family and the food is quite good.

Best is ice cold german beer (Franziskaner and Bitburger)

You should try The Gathering Place, especially their pan fried grouper, which is delicious, it%26#39;s not a smart upmarket place but the staff are all one family and seem to have a good time chatting and laughing with each other whenever you go in, also very reasonably priced for good food.

We were disappointed with Sharkey%26#39;s when we went in March, my husband had the special seafood selection and when it came it was very small for the price, nothing wrong with the food, just very expensive for small portions.

Peaches is great for breakfast, and you should be able to take the free trolley to anywhere on the island.

Any more specific questions, just ask !! Are you flying from Manchester? Which airline?

Thanks everyone for your help. Going to be busy googling these places now to see if we can walk or not (we dont mind walks of up to 40 mins especially if we can walk back along the beach) If not I%26#39;ve got my trolley map and timetable printed off.

Floridianer - We%26#39;ve never eaten German (drank a lot of their beer mind) so we might give the Schnitzelhaus a try.

Derbylady - yes we are flying from Manchester, with Virgin (who are not my favourite airline!!) into Orlando as we are staying there 6 nights first.

Then you have to try the Schnitzelhaus :-)

omas didnt do much for us. it was just barely okay pizza. but, good in a pinch as they deliver.

beachhouse was good...definitely not fabulous. but good enough we ate there twice!
