1 Evening & 1 Day In KW, Best Way To Spend It?

Hi All

As part of my honeymoon, my soon to be wife and I are driving down from Miami and will be spending 1 evening and 1 full day in KW. (all that time permits, cant stay any longer sadly).

I visited KW some 15 years ago with my parents and can remember Mallory Sq, Hemmingway House and going on the small conch train. In your professional opinions, what would be the best way to spend this time and see the most of KW? Neither of us are big drinkers so the bar part isn%26#39;t that important to us, we just want to see the best sites?

Thanks :-)

Well it%26#39;s probably what interests you... List ssome things you like to do and what not... Do you drink at all? Maybe not a bar, but a place like grand vin where you can sit on the porch and share a bottle of wine.

Sadly, the time you have will limit you a bit... But you can make the most of it. Even if it%26#39;s just walking around the island and seeing some interesting things. That might even be the best course of action... see something cool... stop on in.

Rent bikes and ride around Old Town, you can see a lot and enjoy the breeze. Check out sunset at the Mallory Square or the hotel La Concha rooftop bar (no drink required). Watch the boats from the tower bar at Turtle Kraals. Try cuban food at El Siboney and eat seafood at Hogfish Bar on Stock Island on your way in our out of KW (next island up).

Happy Travels and congrat%26#39;s on your marriage!

Beachbum gave you some GREAT advice. There is so much more to do that drink in KW. You can spend days in KW and not even care about going to a bar.

The trolley tour is a neat thing, but the bikes is really cool. Do what you want on your own time, see what you want to see.

Maybe take a day and see what the rest of the keys have to offer. There is MUCH more to the keys than just Key West. The keys do NOT begin at MM 5 and end at MM 0.

I would book a combination snorkel and sunset sail on the Caribbean Spirit for the day you arrive.

It goes out at 5:00 and lasts approx 3.5 hours, but if it is a nice evening they don%26#39;t hurry back. (last trip of the day). The conditions might not be perfect since the sun will be on an angel, but it is a way to expirience two Key Westy things at once. Then you can either have a nice dinner or just visit two or three places at the Bight where the ship docks to try various appitizers and drinks and listen to music.

The you can have breakfast someplace on the next morning and explore and shop a little before you have to leave.

Thanks all for your replies, I think we are looking just to see whatever the main sights are.. Southernmost Point, Mallory Sq etc

I went to Hemmingway house previously but I think we mainly went cause we like cats and obviously there is plenty there.

Infact, I just remembered we went out on a glass bottom boat, does anything like that still run and are they worth it?

Thanks again

Yes, there is still a glassbottom boat tour. Worth it? I don%26#39;t know, but our kids still remember going out on the glassbottom boat at Key West from a trip about 15 years ago. I%26#39;d prefer to be in the water snorkeling, but the glassbottom is a reasonable compromise if you don%26#39;t want to get wet.

15 years ago for me too, just remember everyone being sick in our family apart from me and my dad. Unfortunately, wife to be does not really like the water (being in it) so scuba diving, snorkelling would be out of the question.

What time of year are you coming down? Would water the temperature of a bath make your wife more interested in being in it? When we came down last June, I waded out into the water and had to look down to see if I really was in water. At that point I was up to my knees and still couldn%26#39;t feel any temperature change. Where I live, even in mid-summer you can always feel the temperature change when you step into the water.
