Buy Sunscreen & Beach Towels in Ft Lauderdale or at home??

I have been to some beach towns that have little beach shops that are cheaper than buying these type items here at home. Anyone have any idea if there are any places in Ft Lauderdale to get these type things (sunscreen, beach towels, etc.) cheap. We are making this a low budget getaway this time. Thanks in advance!!

You can get both those items in the local CVS or Walgreen drugs without lugging them from home. You didn%26#39;t mention where you are staying, but in general there are none of the typical discount chains like Walmart and Target near the beach. Most people seem to find what they need at CVS or Walgreen though ,and in my experience they are cheaper than the ';little beach shops'; which I find to be tourist traps with inflated prices.

If you mention your hotel, I might be able to be more specific.

Well we (the fam) are actually tagging along with my DH on a business trip so we%26#39;re not 100% sure where they%26#39;re going to put him (us) yet, but we think it%26#39;s going to be the Gallery One Double Tree. If not there it will be somewhere in that area.

So no Wal-mart in the area?? Would you happen to know where the best priced place to get groceries would be? We%26#39;re going to eat out a few times, but we%26#39;re gonna want to get groceries, particularly for lunches %26amp; snacks %26amp; for a few dinners.

Thanks again!

There is a CVS across the street from the Doubletree and also a Seven Eleven if you head towards the beach. Neither are very big or well stocked, the CVS is probably the better of the two. You won%26#39;t find any bargains in the beach shops, unless you want tacky trinkets steer clear of them. There are a few (3) convenience stores at the junction of Sunrise and the A1a tucked away on the street behind the old Holiday Inn (NE9th Street I think??) but they are rather overpriced IMO. If you have a car there is a Publix on Sunrise around a 5 minute drive from the Doubletree, there is a Walgreens next door to it and a wine store behind Walgreens.

If you do stay at Gallery One , the Publix Sue mentions west on Sunrise is the closest grocery-I too would not recommend the 7-11 type stores either for price or quality.

If you end up in a hotel further south, there is also a Publix on 17th St behind Embassy Suites. There is no full service grocery store on the beach and I would say either Pubix needs to be driven to- though youi could ride the #36 bus across Sunrise or the #40 bus across 17th if you need transportation.
