Laika House vs Pool House vs Holley House

What do you think? For a honeymoon wich house is a best choice?

Thanks for the help

Laika House vs Pool House vs Holley House

All three of these properties are basic in style. The feedback on Laika House indicated the interior was in need of renovation.

Pool House we%26#39;ve had no feedback on. The owners do seem to update bits of it about every 18 months or so. On the bayside. The muti-purpose room and the home theater upstairs are maybe 2-3 years old. On the bay side of the island on a dead end lane.

Both homes are within walking distance of the village restaurants [most so-so], some shops and the very pleasant night life along Andy Rosse Lane. It%26#39;s not much, and in the months of Sept and Oct even that is quiet, but by November it%26#39;s pretty much in full swing again. Also, there are kayak rentals, para-sailing, wave runner rentals and Captiva Cruises leave from there as well. While quiet, it%26#39;s a very pleasant area that%26#39;s fun.

Holly House has been around awhile as well and it has got a water view of Roosevelt Channel, but it%26#39;s location is rather removed from things at the south end of the island. The house is much larger than the other 2 and has a larger pool. You can walk to the Santiva area of Sanibel where there are 3 restaurants and a small convenience store. This area is all private homes and very private and quiet. Santiva has a marina at Castaways where you can rent kayaks, a fun bar, Lazy Flamingo, and not much else. This is where folks stay when they want wildlife and quiet, but still just be a short drive to the village. But parking in the village area is a real problem at night, so do factor that in.

I don%26#39;t know when you%26#39;re planning on going, but in about the same price range and in the village is Casa Shandria. Newly remodeled and with a small pool.

The price on this property varies a LOT, so you will need to check your specific week.

A more modest choice is a little cottage on the Tween Waters stretch, Captiva Cove House. ALso a pool and just a short stroll to the beach. Not near the village, maybe 1.5 miles south. Very well priced, but modest.

Overall, I%26#39;d say Casa Shandria has the best combination of quality and location with a 3 minute stroll to the beach, but it is also the most expensive. Next, I%26#39;d take Holley House for the pool or Pool House for the location. Captiva Cove House would be next as it is private, just across from the beach, is modest, but well priced. Laika would be last.

Thank you Tourmaline for your help. It%26#39;s not for me but for my son and his bride and, maybe, it%26#39;s more difficult.

I wonder if the advice about Laika is pertinent because last year, we%26#39;ve rented Sea of Green wich is just on the other side of the ';street'; and La茂ka seemed very fresh and also, it%26#39;s AMRC who manages both of 2 and our house was so clean every where even around the swimming pool.

In fact Sea of Green is a very nice house, with a wonderful and quiet garden but they don%26#39;t want to go in the same house than us!

If somebody else has something to say about those 3 house (Shandria) is too expensive unfortunately). They will spend their honeymoon on the island bfirst week of september.

Thanks

Hi we have rented the pool house twice. They updated the house after the hurricanes and it is really nice. Bonus is private pool, it used to be screened in but since the hurricane it is open and I like it better. Decorated really nice, it is a very big place because it also has a downstairs bedroom and rec room with a ping pong table and 2nd kitchen. You have a great view of the river from the deck off the living area and we ride our bikes to the beach maybe 3-4 blocks away. Be sure to rent bikes while there great way to get around. We would still be renting there but we purchased some timeshares on Sanibel so we go there instead...

whatever you decide have a wonderful honeymoon.

Thank you for the info. We were just afraid about the ground around the house. It does%26#39;nt seem to be a garden and we would like to have some privacy.

Sea of Green gets very high marks from guests. Leapin%26#39; Lizard used to, but is apparently showing wear. Zinfandel, who reviewed Laika House is a regular contributor here, so I would trust the comments. AMRC, who are a favorite of mine, don%26#39;t always control the housekeeping.

I check Casa Shandria and it was just under $2200 for the week in Sept, but they do use a really complicated pricing schedule there.

Have your kids considered a house in Sunset Captiva? I know it%26#39;s a shared community pool, but it is very quiet.

This condo is in a 5 unit upscale complex right between Jensen%26#39;s Marina and McCarthy%26#39;s, so it%26#39;s about 2 minutes to Key Lime Bistro and Captiva Island Store. There is onlt the 1 condo available for rent and the rest are owner occupied in winter months, though one does go in and out for stays, so it%26#39;s all but private with a good bay view and 1 block to the beach

One week rentals allowed off season and Select Vacation Properties was very nice when I dealt with them. The price is really good for what you get.

In addition to the houses in Sunset Captiva, this condo, and the less private places like Hide Aways condos and Captiva Shores condos, I%26#39;d say, Pool House is likely the biggest bang for the dollar in the village as it does have the private pool. I%26#39;m glad we have the first hand comments too. You can walk down Laika to the beach or go around to the public access point past the South Seas entrance.

Most private - as in very discrete clothing optional swimming type thing, would be Holly House. You don%26#39;t get a whole lot of privacy in the village area as the lots are small and the vegetation can be removed even if it%26#39;s there when you book. Folks are always landscaping.

Thank you Tourmaline,

Your infos are very useful.

I%26#39;ve asked Elaine if, like the others, Holley House can%26#39;t do a ';special'; for september and she said she%26#39;s going to ask but when it begins like thet I have doubts.

They absoluteley dream to have their own pool. So they have to choice between Pool House, Leapin Leazard and Laika (wich will be, as I understand, the last). And, maybe, Holley.

Anyway they will have good memories. Captiva is the best place to spend a honeymoon I think! (we had ours there too!)

Casa Shandria rates were just reduced by 20%.
