Hotels near Siesta Key beach

Cany anyone recommend a hotel (Late Apr into Early May)that is clean and close to the Siesta Key beach?

Reason is will have no car to get around.

Is it necessary to have a car or are taxis or

public transportation readily available and reasonable?

We will be flying into Sarasota/Bradenton airport/

Also, do hotels have free shuttles from the airport

to their hotels?

Thank you!

Wellllll...., you dont need a car if you stay in the village. But there are No chain hotels on siesta key like Hampton Inn or Hyatt so there are no free airport transportation/shuttles. (that I know of)

The only public transportation I%26#39;ve seen is the bus.

So, if I were you I would take cab from the airport to your vacation rental. I would also use VRBO.com %26amp; look for ';village location'; descriptions.

Or stay at Siesta Beach Resort (it is a renovated best western) But in a great location!! Beach directly across a small street %26amp; in the village.

Or use Siesta4rent.com for 1week or longer rentals.

Hope this helps!!

How long will you be staying? Some places have a minimum rental period. Budget per night/ number of bedrooms??

Definitely get a car if you%26#39;re going to be staying awhile.

There are taxis at SRQ airport just outside the doors. No free shuttles.

There are places on Crescent Beach such as Tropical Shores Resort or the Capri Inn.

If you supply more info, I can give you more lodging options.

Check out the SaraSea. Also, Palm Bay rents condos for 3 days and up and will have good prices when you are going. Another reasonable condo is Bay Oaks, which is across the street from the beach.

Alamo has a special for cars at $10/day from Thurs. to Monday. Definitely rent a car if you are old enough.

Summer

SaraSea is owned by the same people that own Tropical Shores and Tropical Sun.

Their website includes all 3 motels.

What attractions are best for with 18mth and 5year old boys

My husband and I are going to Orlando in May with our 18mth old and 5year old boys. What attractions are a must and a no way. We went to DisneyWorld when our 1st child was 2 1/5years but are not sure with the 18mth old???What else would you recommend?

What attractions are best for with 18mth and 5year old boys

If you want them to be calm for at least 5 years, take them on the HULK :-))

NO!! WAIT.. Just kidding!!!

I would say that Magic Kingdom is best for the 5 yo! The 18 mo will never recognise to have been there but the 5 yo will!

That is the best time for kids to visit the mouse, see the castle, meet fairies and throw pixie dust!

:-))

another great option will be seaworld. A lot of nice shows and really education (again, for the 5yo!)

What attractions are best for with 18mth and 5year old boys

Yeah i would definatley visit all the disney parks as at 5 one of your kids will love seeing the castle and the characters scattered across the parks. And your 18 month will as well. However the only rides i dont see them getting on is space mountain, thunder mountain, splash mountain, test track, mission space, rock n roller coaster, Tower of terror and everest but there are loads of other rides.I would recomend going to things like seaworld and gatorland maybe as there is a lot to do and your kids will love feeding the stingrays and watching shamu. And at gatorland your 5 year old will be able to touch the gators. A great experience. As for universal you may want to go to universal studios because there is a lot of family rides there and movie classics with really no hight restrictions. However on the other hand islands of adventure is mainly for the thrill seekers but there however is still many rides that they can do. But there are a lot of rides with hight restrictions.

Of all the parks where everyone in the family can participate in most things together, here%26#39;s the ones I would choose in this order:

1. Magic Kingdom

2. SeaWorld

3. Animal Kingdom

4. Epcot

5. Hollywood Studios

I agree with all the advise.

I went with a 22 month old last time and have been with 5yr olds.

Magic Kingdom will just amaze them and leave them speachless. Yes the 18month old wont really understand but your older son will love every minute of it.

There are loads of rides in Magic Kingdom for both boys, Animal Kingdom he will love the safari, the Boneyard and maybe the dinasour ride if he is quite a brave little boy. Kali river rapids is also a must for the 5yr old.

Hollywood studios, not really got any rides for their age, but there are some wonderful shows and it is so worth a visit.

Epcot, personally my favourite park, has some really cool rides for the boys, and also some shows. But mainly the worlds for you to wander round and also the fireworks are a must.

Sea World will leave them speachless, and you could easily spend two days here.

Personally I would not bother with Universal or IOA as there really is not much for them to do and is something I would do when they are both older.

Hope that helps, have a wonderful holiday.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

Which terminal and restaurants link

I have a restaurant link for FLL and am assuming it is up to date. Question: Which terminal would I be landing in if I was coming from CUN on Spirit and then which would I be departing from to Detroit on Spirit?

All of the Spirit Air flights come in and go out of Terminal 4

Jetty park for launch

Hi all , we are thinking of heading out to jetty park from orlando for the launch, any advise from anybody who has done this , Thanks

Jetty park for launch

Go very early (several hours) before the launch time to get a good place for viewing, and be ready to have a very long, slow drive back to Orlando, as traffic heading back is usually a nightmare.

Also, be prepared for a delay or total scrub of the launch altogether, as it happens more often than not.

Jetty park for launch

Thanks is there any food outlets/ toilets etc ?

any other locations we should consider for viewing , coco beach ? is that where the big ron jons surf shop is ?

There is a camp store on site but you are only about 1/2 mile from several restaurants. Fish Lips, Grills Seafood and a few others are located at the port. There is a Smokehouse bbq place across from Grills that has all kinds of smoked foods vacuum sealed and ready for take out or you can eat there.

Here are a couple of links with info about the park, etc.

Pack a cooler with some drinks and snacks and pick up a couple of cheep lounge chairs at Wal-Mart and you will be set for the day. Don%26#39;t forget the sunscreen! Even if the launch gets scrubbed you will have had a day at the beach.

  • Universal Studios to Festival Bay Mall

Hi, can anyone tell me how to get from Universal Studios across to the Festival Bay Mall on public transport? Does the I-ride trolley, which appears to finish its route at the Mall, also go to Universal Studios? If not is it possible to walk to its nearest stop (without having to get across a main road with no pedestrian crossing or anything terrifying like that)? Any help gratefully received.

Universal Studios to Festival Bay Mall

    I-Ride doesn%26#39;t go to Universal.

Take LYNX service 37 from Universal%26#39;s ';Parking Garage'; (bus station) with destination ';Florida Mall';. Frequency is every 30 minutes weekdays; 60 at weekends.

Get off at the one stop it makes on International Drive. Ask the driver if necessary. Trip time less than 10 minutes.

(Note: Remember where this is; you%26#39;ll need to transfer opposite here on your return trip. Again, you can ask the driver.)

From the same stop take LYNX 8 or 42 (frequent) to Festival Bay. It%26#39;s only 5 minutes or so.

Pay one fare ($2) and **ask for a transfer**. Use the transfer ticket to ride the second bus.

Unless you have a specific reason to visit Festival Bay....prepare to be underwhelmed!

Universal Studios to Festival Bay Mall

Have to agree with Scan we visited the Fesival Bay last October, very disappointing.

You only have Ron Jon%26#39;s Surf shop a large outdoor type camping accessories shop. The other shops are small.

This Mall has not got any better than the last time we visited, there is a number of empty shops so not a lot to choose from.

I would suggest that you stay on the bus a go to the Florida Mall, at least you you have the pick of the shops.

    All the best.

Thank you Scan60 for your help and MadScotsman12 for your reply. Only reason for going to Festival Bay was Black Market Minerals shop at that Mall. Teenage daughter loves rocks and wanted a rock from America to add to her collection. Yes, we will go to Florida Mall as well.

Scan60, from a previous reply to someone else, am I right in thinking we can take Lynx 37 from Universal Studios to Florida Mall then Lynx 111 back to Downtown Disney? Would be ok Friday and Sunday evening?

    Yes you can.

  • KSC: rocket-viewing and more ...

Hi everyone from Sydney!! First up,a huge THANK YOU to all those who take the time to post: I%26#39;ve learnt HEAPS, %26amp; have changed our itinerary significantly as a result!

Secondly, fyi: i have also posted this on the CA forum, so forgive me if i am doing the wrong thing by posting here also, but our trip covers east %26amp; west coast, so we need advice all around:=)

The 4 of us (sons 8 %26amp; 11), self %26amp; husband, have 4 weeks in the US in Sep/Oct %26amp; want to see as much as we can without going crazy with all the internal flights :=) Here is our draft itinerary:

Sep 16 - 19: SF: Alcatraz, general touristy things, walk the GG bridge, etc. Accom short-list: Del Sol; Parc55, Cowhollow

Sep 19 - 25: fly to LA: Disneyland (3days-ish, park-tripper ticket); Universal, Hollywood, couple of ';easy days'; in between. Accom: HoJo or Candy Cane

Sep 25: Fly to L.Vegas in afternoon

Sep 26: Hire car in a.m. %26amp; drive to Grand Canyon to see sunset/sunrise. Accom alrdy booked at Maswik :=))

Sep 27: Day at GC, then drive back to LV (dont want to see anything other than ';city lights';, but figure its easier to stay o/night)

Sep 28 - Oct 2: Fly to NYC. Big Apple Greeter; Ground 0; Empire SB; Liberty; Baseball game at YS; etc etc :) Accom: ??!

Oct 2: Fly or Amtrak to Buffalo

Oct 3: Niagara Falls, then fly to DC

Oct 3 - 7: DC... White House, Spy Museum, Air/Space Museums, everything else :=))

Oct 7 - 8; fly Orlando ONLY for KSC and (hopefully!) Atlas rocket launch :) so no theme parks here

Oct 9: fly back to LA, stay at/near Airport

Oct 10 - 12: (Amtrak?)day trip to SD for legoland etc. anything else in LA, then back to Sydney

PHEW!!!! Is it TOO much? We really really want to see Disneyland for the boys, Niagara, GC, and they are Space-mad, so KSC %26amp; the DC museums are a must

My questions for the Orlando experts (apart from any general comments please!: if the Atlas launch goes ahead (i understand they are frequently rescheduled) a good viewing place looks like Jetty Park, right? Is the Radisson (Astronaut Blvd) a good place to stay, so we%26#39;d just drive to Jetty Park?.. Can you also see well from KSC itself (bearing in mind it is not a shuttle,so launches from C. Canaveral) .. thanks a ton in advance.... ozzkazz

    KSC: rocket-viewing and more ...

Any of those places will work... keep in mind traffic will be horrendous.

I can see it from my house in Orlando, so if you%26#39;re anywhere near the coast you%26#39;ll see it fine... but it sounds like you want the full experience, ground shaking etc.

Personally I watch the count-down on TV, it launches... I step outside and look up, and watch it go in person. There is one scheduled for tonight at 9:20pm.

As a side note... yes I think you%26#39;re doing too much. Why do Disneyland? We have Disneyworld right here in FL. Much bigger than the one in CA.

    KSC: rocket-viewing and more ...

Ok, I am just exhausted reading your itinerary can%26#39;t imagine doing it. I agree with Ladyem, if you are going to be coming the east coast to see the Space Center, I think it would be better to do Disney and Universal here. Not only is it bigger, but if memory serves they have alot here that you won%26#39;t see in California. That way you could actually be in one place for more then 3 days. You will be exhausted with all the flying and time changes. And you might even have time to check out one of the waterparks, which I am sure the kids would love.

As for the rocket launch, again I agree with Ladyem, anywhere near the coast is good. Don%26#39;t know if there are still tickets available at KSC for the launch or not, you might want to check on that.

Thanks so much to both of you, great advice!

Just some background for you: we are using our (many many years worth!) of frequent flyer points for our 4 x (Business Class) return airfares form Sydney. So this has dictated the start/end points, ie: fly Sydney -%26gt; SF, then home to Sydney from LA. So this overall path, we cannot change (we had to book 1 YEAR ahead to get these seats :-)).

Our initial idea was to take the boys to Disneyland, but as the US is such a fabulous place for ';stuff to see';, and we are coming all that way, we figured we%26#39;d try %26amp; see as much as we reasonably could. That said, I do agree with everyone saying we are doing too much...

Your suggestion to skip LA for the theme parks would save a lot of transfer-time for sure... My only 2 concerns are (1) I鈥檝e checked out the forum on DL vs. WDW, and the cost of the Hotels (ie: mainly within WDW) may be significantly higher, right?. And (2) our boys are lego-addicts, and apart from a DW store, Orlando does not have a legoland, am I right?... so I would still need to fit in a day trip to San Diego from LA, on the last couple of days before we fly home. I have posted a Q on the CA site asking for suggestions on this also鈥?

Re KSC %26amp; the Rocket launch : we didn鈥檛 book tickets, as we are unable to extend our stay if it is re-scheduled. Our plan was to see KSC regardless, and if the launch goes ahead on the 8th, we would do KSC on EITHER another day, OR if we can see the launch (without tickets) from the grounds of KSC as part of our ';normal'; day-visit, then we would do that鈥?is this reasonable? ..

Ladyemm, you step outside and see a rocket launch ?? 鈥?jealous :) 鈥?when you say traffic is horrendous: that was the idea behind us staying on Astronaut Blvd, sort-of near Jetty Park.. so we would not have far (%26lt;2 miles?) to go to see the launch 鈥?or have I lost the plot on this?

And finally 鈥?what do you think if we leave out Niagara ? .. thanks heaps once again鈥? ozzkazz...

    Resurrection

Ok, so what is up with so many posters replying to posts that are 2-3 YEARS old? Come on, at least check the original post date before hitting reply. Some info that is given now is not applicable to what they were wanting then.

On a side note- Hey all my TA buddies! How are things going? It is 26 degrees in my TX town this morning. Can%26#39;t wait to get to FL in March.

    Resurrection

I understand Texasteach, not sure, I know one poster is signed on for one reason only to promote a certain hotel. Must be a hotel employee. If you see the missing posts that is what was there. I agree, people need to read the dates. Some may be relavent but most are old news!!!!

It will be perfect weather when you come in March!!!

    Resurrection

TT, how was your trip to Daytona this year? What all did you do? Anything new to report on?

hoosier- i didn%26#39;t actually get to Daytona in March ths year, but I was in FL, and the weather was AWESOME!!!! My circumstabces have become very interesting latey and I might actually be moving back to the Daytona area this summer..... what fun right???? I grew up in Daytona, and visit 2-3 times each year, I just haven%26#39;t been there since New years ( a total blast by the way) but will be going back very soon and will report back. I am very interested in the boardwalk renovations, etc.

I hope your situation is not an unpleasant one. Moving to DB sounds like a positive thing. We fell in love with the area eight years ago and have been back almost every year since. We have been to a few other beaches in FL, Cocoa, New Smyrna, Clearwater, Treasure Island, and the DB area is where we go now exclusively.
