Hey everybody! I just returned from a 3nt/4 day trip
to Clearwater Beach(with my husband)!
We arrived at Tampa airport at 12;30 %26amp; AT THE HOTEL by 1:00. We stayed at Royal North Beach hotel at 657 mandalay. The property %26amp; the staff were Great! Cathy the manager is sooo helpful! The rooms are nicely renovated with newer sofas/chairs/armoirs/tables.
The pool was heated. We had a 1 bdrm unit, but that included a LV RM, kitchen/DR area, Bath, hall closet, %26amp; BDRM. Lots of towels, even beach towels, sunscreen, beach chairs, sand toys..., oh %26amp; 3 bikes.
We ate at Frenchys rockaway grill(beachfront)
My husband Loved their grouper sandwich!
I liked their beer special, Tsingtao beer for 2.50.
We liked the beach, but the water was way too cold to get in (59 degrees) But there were a few canadians frolicing in the water. I kinda wished somebody would clean up all the seaweed. There was ALOT! It looked liked pine needles though %26amp; not like seaweed-I guess its been there a while.
We were within walking distance to the Pier %26amp; restaurants, which was good because we did not rent a car. The trolley/bus system confused me, but I dont take public transportation very much. There is a Jolly Trolly($2 one -way) to go most any where on clearwater beach to Sand Key also to Publix on Island way. But there is also a PSTA? Trolly-shaped bus w/tinted windows that goes who knows where. The bus stop signs have a sun on it %26amp; the Trolly signs have Jolly Trolly on them.
Anyhow, we ate at the Beach Shanty diner for their 2.99 breakfast. It was good! Plenty of eggs, toast %26amp; hashbrowns! Just order it, you%26#39;ll see
Also we had great clam chowder at Cooters.
JBs behind Suntrust had good pancakes %26amp; bacon.
Frenchys (next to McDonalds)we had a pitcher of sangria for $12. It was good but cinnamon-y.
The Hilton Tiki Bar had Fabulously stout drinks with a single-acoustic-musician guy playing cool 90s tunes
beachfront!
We did see about 5-6 police officers all the time.
There seems to be quite a few homeless people, (I saw maybe 12)but no beggars. Saw most of them getting arrested by police.
We also didnt know where to ride our bikes. We observed the police officers riding their bikes on the sidewalks, but the sidewalks are sometimes narrow. so we opted for the street but no bike lanes made some areas tricky.
We did like Clearwater. Its sunny, mostly quiet on the end of the island where we stayed. Good food %26amp; drinks. Nice white sand %26amp; blue water
Oh %26amp; I gotta give a shout out to the best cabbie in the county! Rich at Tampahybridtaxi.com !! Great rates $44 from C. Beach to the airport!
