ammenities at POR

For Orleans Riverside, Does anyone know if there are ice machines available near the rooms (I%26#39;m always skeptical of this with hotels that open to the outside)? Also, does anyone know if there is a microwave or multiple microwaves available in the food court for public use?

thanks!

Yes, there are Ice Machines

Yes, there is a Mircowave in the Food Court

ammenities at POR

Hello fellow North Carolinian,

I just wanted to add, I never stay at Motel-type places either, but the POR felt different.

I was there last week for a week and had a great time. I was a solo traveler and never felt unsafe. There were always people walking around and sitting outside relaxing.

Also, I only saw one microwave in the food court. I only used it once and hardly saw anyone using it. I think there was also a toaster oven beside the microwave.

Acoustic Bars

Going to be in Destin in May. Wondering if there are any bars/coffee houses that have live music? Preferably acoutic music? Thanks everyone...

  • Going to Jiko directly from Blizzard beach???

    Hi there!

I have an ADR for Jiko one day at 7:30 pm, and I am thinking of spending the afternoon at the Blizzard Beach until 7pm and going directly to the restaurant. But the dress code is business casual.

Do you think it麓s a crazy idea to change clothes at the Blizzard Beach? Or people just do that often?

Going to Jiko directly from Blizzard beach???

First of all, what time does BB close that day? The waterparks close early.

Second, there are locker rooms there and lots of people change clothes and shower there. Rent a towel instead of bringing one for one less thing to bring with you if you don%26#39;t have a car. If you have to leave the park well before your reservation, you can always stroll around the AK Lodge and check out all the resort has to offer.

Going to Jiko directly from Blizzard beach???

Actually what I think is crazy is how many people don%26#39;t change their clothes at BB and get on the bus in a wet bathing suit!

It certainly isn%26#39;t the most comfy place to dress up for a nice restaurant but you%26#39;ll find enough space to be able to change in the restroom

Yeah you could use the changing rooms at blizzard beach or just use the restrooms to get changed. afterall its only a nice pair of trousers and something like a t-shirt.

ok! that麓s all I needed to know. Thanks!

Opps we travel without fully changing back to the resort.

Business casual is not usually a T shirt, right?

If traveling on the bus you will have a hard time keeping your clothes from getting wrinkled.

I myself have not made any plans directly from a waterpark since the changing areas and bathrooms are clean but are very beach like bathrooms to me. We would also like to get the chemicals out of our hair from the water.

oooh Macs - I agree with you. I dislike the changing rooms at the waterparks. Disney do keep them as clean as they can, but by the end of day, I always find them a bit smelly and gross.

If I had a nice dinner reservation for Jiko, I%26#39;d leave the waterpark early and go back to my accomodation for a proper shower and freshen up. Having said that, we always hire a car which does make coming and going a little easier.

    Another option

Use the Pool Changing Room/Shower Room at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, it%26#39;s very nice, much nicer then the one at Blizzard Beach :)

30th birthday in SoBe with friends... need recomendations pl

I will be celebrating my 30th birthday with my husband and 2 other couples on 4/16-4/19. We are trying to find a hotel near the beach, no more than $100/night and we don%26#39;t need a kitchen. Some of the hotels in our price range looked dirty from the reviews and picture I saw on this site and I wasn%26#39;t sure if the hotel was in a good location. That%26#39;s the main reason i am asking you all because I was ready to cancel my trip last night. What are is a good area to stay in?

One of the couples that is going stayed at The President... is that a good location? We are driving to Miami from Atlanta so we will need a place to park the car but I really want to leave it parked for the whole trip.

If anyone also knows about the club scene that plays house, hip hop and R%26amp;B music that would be great as well.

    TIA

Were is everyone? I thought I would have had some type of response by now.

30th birthday in SoBe with friends... need recomendations pl

The President hotel is a good location, its about 2 blocks from Lincoln Road which has lots of shopping and restaurants - a block from the beach, and within walking distance to pretty much everything else.

You could try Mansion Nightclub which plays some hip hop, house, R%26amp;B, etc.

Thanks SoBe4u for the reply. I think we are going to stay at The President.

Good Luck finding a decent hotel for less than $100 per night in South Beach.I would be very apprehensive staying in one that cheap. I stayed at the Sanctuary Feb 8 %26amp; 9th on James Ave. about 2.5 blocks from the beach, and it was $385.00 for two nights. Saturday nights are a little more expensive. Parking will cost you extra too. A lot of the hotels only have valet parking.

  • What a week for Key West.....

We left late for our vacation in KW after our daughter had an unexpected knee surgery. We were hesitant but all was well.(Oh poor us??) We arrived to find the unfortunate news of KWT%26#39;s passing. I had never been granted the pleasure of meeting him but had been guided by much well heeded advice. We were looking forward to tipping our glasses with what seemed a very good man. Our dismay. Needless to say, we enjoyed our time with old friends we have have encountered over the years and the new friends we always meet. This trip really grounded us, for several reasons. Upon our return we learned of the fires... Places we have been to, places we JUST returned from.. Thank God everyone was OK.

We have never been anywhere else where everyone is so closely knit from so many different places, all walk of life etc.. Wonderful people who really care about others, who are willing to help, no questions asked.

Our hats off, glasses tipped, to all who appreciate and make up what Key West is all about.

I dare anyone to find another place on this earth that is able to gather such a ';family';.. We feel fortunate for our few weeks a year to be part of this incredible community and we try to continue to carry that on until the next time we are are able to travel to Mile 0.

What a week for Key West.....

    Very well said :)

What a week for Key West.....

    What Phillygirl said.

Well said. It%26#39;s been a crummy couple of weeks with Q%26#39;s passing and then the fire taking down a couple of places we%26#39;re all familiar with.

I don%26#39;t think anyone feels the same logging on now, but I guess that will come back with time.

I greatly miss Taxi%26#39;s presence. I was looking forward to meeting him and talking about food and bikes with him in May at CTH. Also, I hope everybody effected by the fire comes out on top. And I%26#39;m glad that everyone else is still here.

    54 days...

You said what many of us have been thinking. There is a void in our forum that will be hard to fill but the warmth and commeraderie of all the members makes it easier to bear. Amazing how one little island can impact so many in such a positive way.

Glad you were able to make it down, even if it was a short trip. Too bad we didn%26#39;t have the opportunity to meet, I think we did about 12 happy hours in 7 days. Hope your daughter is recovering on schedule...hope to hook up with you guys another time.

I can relate to your trip, lbeezer... Our vacation was bitter sweet as well and I have procrastinated writing a trip report because of that. We had a wonderful time in general, seeing old friends and new but there was always the uneasiness of not knowing the latest Q report, no computer connection, asking all we met what his status was. He was still hanging on when we left, passed the day after we got home. God bless you Quentin, my friend.

What you said about the community is spot-on... exactly what I love best about Key West!

So True..... We also arrived in Key West on 02/27 hoping for good news on Q to be sadly disappointed. We also had a very other unfortunate experience. While sitting by the pool behind The Duval House we heard two gun shots. The police were called and a poor man shot himself in the church directly behind the pool. Was just sad, we then returned home to find all the other bad news after being over a week without the internet, the fire and Q%26#39;s passing. I also haven%26#39;t been able to do a trip report yet.

    Well said indeed!

Key West is like having a little secret and sometimes I want to tell everyone I know how special it is but most of the time I just want to keep it to myself and only share it with the people I love and care about鈥︹€ have had such a heavy heart with all the sad news of late, but as my husband tells me; a heavy heart is better than an emty one.

    allegiant air

Anyone know anything about this company? I have never heard of them but they are very cheap and offer one way flights to Orlando. Any info is appreciated.

    allegiant air

I don%26#39;t know anything personally other than I have booked flights in October with them. I do know people that have flown it to Vegas and they said it was fine and the seating was more spacious than other commercial flights. I do know you have to pay for soft drinks or snacks but are welcome to bring your own which I always have some snacks and a bottle of water with me anyway so not a big deal. If you pick your seating you do pay an extra $10.00 a piece but it was worth that to me to be sure I was sitting with my hubby. From the people that went on the flights to Vegas there was no problem getting to sit with their partners because they don%26#39;t book 100%. The price was great so we booked for 2 and with all taxes and everything it was $311.00 roundtrip for both of us. It flies in to Sanford airport and not the Orlando airport. I don%26#39;t know if that is good or bad but I would think better. I can let you know after we return if you are still interested.

    allegiant air

Thanks so much for the post. No big deal about the snacks/drinks I do the same as you. We have a 9 year old daughter that thinks snacks are a huge part of traveling. EEK I did not realize that you had to pay extra to ensure that you sit with your family. I will just freak if my daughter doesn%26#39;t atleast get to sit with me. Obviously I would rather have all three of us together. Also our whole reason of going to Orlando is that we are going to Disney World and we are also staying onsite, so my question is where is this Sanford place that you are talking about? I just assumed it was Orlando Airport and the Disney people just picked you up and took you to your hotel. Any more info is so very much appreciated!

Sanford International is about 45 miles by road N east of of the Disney area. The Disney area being SW of orlando city centre. From a Brits point of view Strange roads / road lay outs. Steering wheel on the wrong side etc Sanford is much easier to get out of than Orlando international, and much easyer as you wont have to go through emigration control. The road is comparitivly quite till you get to The Greenway a toll road. Its an easy drive down to the disney area and gives us time to ajust to the differant road conditions.

Going the I 4 route can be a bit hair raising as it is usually cloged with traffic at the time planes from britian get there.

Being US citizans you will not have the same experiance.

But you could have a simular one if you plane was to drop you off at London Heathrow.

I am assuming of course that you will be hiring a car. just join the Greenway south and west. Tampa/ Disney area. drive to the last but one exit. 46-48 miles.

Have you already booked your tickets? If not you can go online and see the seating chart and pick your seats and I also noticed you can purchase shuttle to Disney on the site along with a car or hotel and other things too. We have rented a car at the Sanford Airport on our own because I was able to get a better deal than thru Allegiant and have made a reservation for a hotel right outside of the Airport the night before we fly home since it is a early morning flight home. From what I have heard about the Vegas flights because they don%26#39;t start the flights from Mo. until Oct. 5th there wasn%26#39;t a problem getting seats together but to me it was worth the money to pay to know we were sitting together. I guess we will see. When are you going?

Haven%26#39;t flown them personally, but family members have flown them from Springfield to Vegas. They were pleased.

Thanks to all for your info. Mikatco-- Yes we have booked our tickets already. I did not see anything about a Disney shuttle on their website. Where did you see it? We never intended on renting a car. Since we just thought that Disney picks you and up and takes you back to your airport we figured everything else we wanted to see and do were on the Disney property. We have never been to Disney World before. Actually we have never been anywhere! Atleast not out of the ';four states';. I use that term because I see that you are from Missouri also and you will know what I mean. We also have an early flight back home. 8:15am so not looking forward to that. Your hotel idea is a very good one. Thanks for all your help. Oh yeah, we will be flying out on January 21st.

I went in to their Website and tried the January dates and the activity list didn%26#39;t come up. If you want to look at it go in and pick the Oct dates and just keep going thru the screens and you will see the additional activity list to choose from. I did notice it is $25.00 per person for the shuttle for 1 way. You can rent a small car cheaper than what that would total for the 3 of you traveling both ways. Even if you left it in the parking you probably would be better off plus you could see other things other than just the Disney properties. Others may have a different suggestion on shuttle service and know of better prices. I rented on-line and the prices have continued to go down and I just call and have them adjust to the new prices and they are happy to do it. I know you can also rent a car thru Allegiant but my husband wanted an SUV and it wasn%26#39;t available thru them. For what you are needing you could just rent the cheapest car just for transportaion. We are traveling down the east coast and also going over to the gulf so we needed a vehichle. Good luck, and I understand I didn%26#39;t know it flew into Sanford either when I bought the tickets but it isn%26#39;t a big deal for us. I am sure others can give you some suggestions because I have read about international flights going into there and I am sure there are people that used a shuttle service.

There are shuttle services availabale from Sanford but they are not cheap nor ar they fast. As the previous post said if there is a family of you it would be cheaper to rent a car. I dont think they rent any SUV%26#39;s as the largest proportion of travelers and aircraft using Sanford come from Britian there is little of no demand for those vechiels.

Your other problem might be on your return journey the night before where you are going to stay at an Hotel over night.

My understanding is they only run to airport and Theame Park hotels.

I dont recolect any hotels on or very near the airport.

You may have to have a taxi from your Disney Area Hotel to the hotel you ar going to stay over night at This might well cost in excess of $90 + an amount for every extra person.

Mikatko- Where are you renting your car from? I was wondering if there was a rental place right by the airport that picks you up or something. I apologize for my not knowing anything about any of this. Like I said before we are not previous travelers. I%26#39;ve never flown or rented a car before. $25 one way each sounds insanefor the shuttle. After you said that about renting a car reminded me that my daughter (and me) would love to see the ocean so having a car might not be a bad idea. I just was not expecting to even be considering getting one. Thanks again. Also thanks to poacher. A $90 taxi ride does not sound very good to me!!

    Returning on Magical Express

How far in advance should I go back to my resort to get on the Magical Express back to the airport. My flight will leave at 3:30?

    Thank you

    Returning on Magical Express

They will most likely give you a 12:30 - 1:00 pick-up time. You will recieve an Info Packet on your door the day before you leave

    Returning on Magical Express

Well let me ask you this, I want to eat at Tusker house the morning before we leave, and we will have already went to ak. Do you think we would have enough time to eat and then let my 4 year old ride a couple of rides, then get back in time for departure, I am thinking of changing my departure time to 6:30, but I will save 120.00 by keeping it the way it is.

    Thanks

Since you will need to check out by 11:00 am, I would suggestgetting the earliest reservation time and possibly have an hour or so for rides and then get back to resort by check out time.

I already have an 8:20 ADR, do you seem to think this will work?

I am going to check out that morning, and leave my bags there.

You might feel rushed. If you go with the plan, Make sure you leave the AK at least an hour before your pick-up time. We always try to get a late flight out so we don%26#39;t have to rush but will spend most of our last day lounging by the pool or a little stroll around DTD, nothing too stressfull. We never seem to have much energy left by the last day and feeling so sad it%26#39;s all over :(

Since ADR times are not exact meaning you may not get seated immediately at 8:20, I would allow an extra 15 minutes to get seated and about an hour to eat. You will want to leave AK by 10:30, I agree that you may feel rushed.

We usually what partypa said, plan nothing for last day, eat at resort and then hang out there or walk over to DTD (when we stay at SSR), until it%26#39;s time for the bus to come. I would be totally stressed out afraid we%26#39;d miss the ME bus or whatever;) We like to relax one last time before heading back to the ';real world';:)

I think you are both correct, I need to re-think this. This is my first trip, lol so I am new at planning and getting all of the kinks worked out.

What Resort are you staying at ? maybe we can help you find a nice breakfast and something else to do that morning

I will be staying at Caribbean Beach Resort. I will be leaving to come home on April 30. This will just be for my 4 year old and I.

Thanks so much, I really appreciate it!
