Homes without pool cages at Reunion Resort

Hi-

Does anyone have experience with these?

We have not rented a home without a pool cage in Florida before. It appears that some homes in Reunion have them and others (backing onto the golf course?) do not?

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks.

Jkelly

Cage?

do you mean screened in pool?

Basically all they do is keep the bugs and dirt out... so you may have more bugs, leaves etc in the pool.

It%26#39;s like going to a water park, they%26#39;re not screened in and often have more junk in the water

Ladyemm-

Yes, that%26#39;s what I mean.

I guess I%26#39;m confused as to why some have them and some don%26#39;t. It just seems necessary- especially to sit out on the lanai for a meal, etc..

I also have fears about gators and snakes which are probably a little far-fetched.

Thanks.

Jkelly

I have to say, unscreened looks nicer, but you can%26#39;t use the pool at night without one. That is, unless you want to be eaten alive by mossies.

And they will keep some (but not all) of the wildlife out as well. I%26#39;d go for the screen, esp if you are going in the hotter, wetter months when there are more bugs.

Not entirely far fetched on the gators and snakes, but unlikely.

It%26#39;s just a personal choice of the owner... most like to have them, although it does add a considerable cost to building. Some people think they look ugly.

Some people don%26#39;t mind fishing the leaves out before using the pool and enjoy being out in the full open of the sun while swimming.

Some people think they obstruct the view... If you have a golf view, why block it with a black screen.

Now another thing to consider is... is it every home backing onto the golf course that doesn%26#39;t have it? That could be a clause in their contracts with the home owners association.

Personally if I ever built a pool then it would be a must, I hate bugs, especially the giant mutant wasps we have here that like to hover around. It would make me paranoid, and I just don%26#39;t want to have to clean junk out all the time.

What?! Giant mutant wasps?! I do not like the sound of this. I had a dream about a giant mutant ninja wasp once and it was not an experience I would like to repeat.

Fortunately, the pool in my forthcoming rental is screened and south facing. Therefore I will be able to enjoy my wacky noodles for the purpose they were designed for, rather than as a wasp and bug weapon.

My boys use them as a anti brother device ;-)

Mine too Amanx !! Or as a water beating weapon (sounds like a gunshot).

I dont like the screens round the pool, but they do help to keep out the massive dragonflies and we also have had large (to me) spiders attached to the OUTSIDE of them as well. I just think, if the screen wasn%26#39;t there, %26#39;that thing%26#39; could be inside the villa.

Wish I hadn%26#39;t written that gunshot comment - it doesn%26#39;t sound too nice.

Sorry - please ignore it. I wish there was an edit button.

Whether you really need a pool screen kind of depends on a particular area or even house. I鈥檝e got a house on a lake and without the screen I鈥檇 get eaten alive every time I went onto the pool deck (like I did after the 2004 hurricanes). But, I鈥檝e been to neighboring houses a bit removed from the lake and barely seen any bugs.

As to dragon flies, they鈥檙e your friends. They live to eat mosquitoes and they don鈥檛 bite people. I haven鈥檛 seen any of the really big spiders in years. It must be where I live.

There was a new fad developing before the housing crash where at least one new development actually banned pool screens. I guess neighborhoods do look better without them, but I can鈥檛 imagine not having mine.

Having owned a house that was along side the fairway of a golf course, not only would the screen stop the bugs it would also stop the golf balls from coming in. We moved after a year of living in what seemed like a war zone, What I thought was a dream locations/view turned into hell. I could only let my kids out wearing the bike helmets and sat them under a gazebo to play.
