Is the water crystal clear?

I%26#39;m looking into doing a summer vacation in Sanibel this summer. One of the things I really am looking for is crystal clear water and I am getting mixed ideas from the pictures. What is the water like? Are there any other beaches in Florida that you would recommend that have crystal clear water?

Is the water crystal clear?

Sanibel water color changes depending on the amount of wind and waves. The island has sand bars that go out and so between the shells and sand it can get stirred up.

Sanibel toots blog has almost a year now of water views for you to look at and judge. http://sanibeltoots.blogspot.com/

I added pictures to my profile from the last several trips....although they did not upload clear you can see all different water colors.

Captiva does not have the sandbars like Sanibel and so the water is bluer down there.

Destin Florida area has bluer water and sugar white Sand. A downside is the pan handle in the summer is peak prices and jelly fish seem to collect and gather and a summer storm pushes them to the beaches.....I%26#39;ve experienced it myself and heard others clomplain as well. Our trip was mid to end of July. Go to the Destin Forum and inquire.

Is the water crystal clear?

In a word the answer is - NO

The water at Fort Lauderdale was pretty clear but it wouldn%26#39;t be my choice for a vacation.

If looking for crystal clear water, this isn%26#39;t the place. Captiva water is a little more clear, but nothing here compares to water like you find in places like the Bahamas, where you can see the bottom at over 35 feet. This water wouldn%26#39;t be a choice of mine for scuba diving or snorkling. It all depends on what you want to do. If you want to find seashells, then this is the place. :-) http://sanibeltoots.blogspot.com

I agree with the previous posters ... no crystal clear water on Sanibel! I love the place, but that isn%26#39;t one of it%26#39;s features ...

I%26#39;d amend it to say that the water isn%26#39;t usually clear. We were there two weeks ago and for some reason the water was a deep blue-green and surprisingly clear.

It all depends on what you want to do in the water. There is no snorkeling or scuba to speak of..

The water has been unusually clear for the past couple of weeks.
